The Agave Takeover

Fri 10 Nov 2017

The Agave Take over event was an opportunity to get two of Leicesters finest cocktail bars working together to create cocktails to sell at each other’s venues. Due to the popularity of the agave spirits category the bars chose to work with the brands of Cazcabel, Dangerous Don and Estancia racillia. The first event took place on the 1st of November which gave bar tenders and consumers from around the city a chance to sample to range of product s whilst recieving knowledge from the regional brand development manager.

After the tasting Kal, the owner and founder of 33 Cank street showcased his selection of drinks at the Attic. This provided both bars with a great opportunity to be exposed to each others customers whilst sharing a common interest in the agave spirits category. The following week the take over moved over to 33 Cank street where we kicked it off with a cocktail competition.

Thea (Brand owner of Dangerous don), Chris Hare (Brand manager of Cazcabel) and Max Musson (Midlands Brand development manager) judged the contest based on a number of the following factors:

Taste, Balance, presentation, bar craft, skill, etiquette, story, knowledge, seasonality, sustainability, locality, whether this was your first competition and if you attended the previous tasting.

The winner of the competition was Will Eversfield from the Attic with the “El Prague’O” a drink inspired from a stag weekend abroad and the runner up being Kal Ruparell with his drink “A long two weeks” inspired by Kal’s previous two weeks work and how his drink was one which he would love to sip on when work was over and he could spend some quality time relaxing by himself.

After the competition was over the chefs from cured provided a great selection of agave themed taco’s and sides which paired perfectly with the range of drinks on offer. Whilst will and Zander from the Attic carried on to sell their winning drinks and others throughout the evening.
